Frymburk is a picturesque market town located in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, situated on a peninsula along the left bank of the Lipno Reservoir. As of January 1, 2024, it has a population of approximately 1,379 residents. ?

History

The earliest recorded mention of Frymburk dates back to 1270. Initially, it was under the ownership of the Vítkovci lords of Ceský Krumlov. After their extinction in 1302, the Rosenberg family acquired the town. In 1379, Frymburk was first referred to as a town. The town experienced significant development, establishing its own brewery in the 16th century and comprising 118 houses by 1598. However, during the Thirty Years' War, Swedish troops destroyed and burned Frymburk. A devastating fire in 1856 further damaged the town square and 54 houses. The construction of the Lipno Reservoir in 1959 transformed Frymburk into a recreational area. ?
